Dumpster rental software for recurring commercial service

A buying checklist for contractors and other long-term accounts. Vendor documentation checked September 23, 2026.

The workflow to test

A long-term customer may keep one container on site while requesting a weekly dump-and-return, an occasional exchange, and a final pickup months later. The software needs to distinguish the rental from each service visit. Otherwise, a schedule can look correct while the invoice misses a haul, bills the wrong site, or treats the final pickup as another recurring visit.

Use a sample account with two job sites, different container sizes, one skipped service week and separate weight tickets. Ask every vendor to show the schedule, driver task, charge, invoice and account statement for the same example. This is a more useful test than asking whether the product has “recurring billing.”

What is publicly documented

Docket documents recurring dumpster tasks for a fixed schedule during a long-term rental, such as a weekly dump-and-return or monthly exchange. Its help center says the initial drop-off must already exist, the recurring service connects to that drop-off, and the final pickup is a separate task. A saved series cannot be changed across all future instances at once; changing its frequency, size or weight allowance requires replacing the remaining instances. A single instance can be edited separately.

Docket also documents different billing methods by client type. Its example is a commercial client billed in arrears, with individual charges collected for a later invoice, while other clients may be invoiced in advance. That setting is available only after client types have been configured. Docket's account statements can show invoices, payments, credits and outstanding balances, grouped by service address; some statement features depend on the client dashboard being enabled.

PJR Software advertises weekly, monthly and batch recurring billing on its roll-off product page, alongside scheduling, routing and auto-invoicing after service completion. That public page does not explain how a recurring service series is edited, how skipped visits affect billing, or whether a multi-site customer receives one consolidated invoice. Request a live demonstration rather than assuming those details.

Demo checklist for a commercial account

  1. Create one customer with two service addresses. Confirm that each address has its own container and service history.
  2. Schedule an initial delivery, recurring dump-and-return visits, an unscheduled exchange and a final pickup. Show which events create a charge.
  3. Skip one weekly visit and move another to a different day. Check whether future appointments and customer notifications remain correct.
  4. Change the weight allowance halfway through the agreement. Ask whether that updates the whole series, only future services or one task.
  5. Attach a scale ticket to each completed haul. Trace any weight or extra-day charge to the correct visit and agreement.
  6. Produce the customer's monthly invoice and statement, grouped by service address. Reconcile them against completed driver tasks and payments.
  7. End the agreement early. Confirm that future services stop but completed visits and their billing evidence remain accessible.

The weight-ticket and overage guide covers charge evidence in detail. The QuickBooks Online guide covers the accounting handoff, and the inventory guide covers container location and exchanges.

What to ask before signing

Request written confirmation of the plan required for recurring tasks, client-type billing, statements, payment collection and accounting sync. Ask how cancellations, holidays, missing tickets and disputed charges are handled. A vendor's public feature description does not establish what your specific subscription includes. Also ask how to export customer, site, task and invoice records if you later change systems.

For a shorter first-pass comparison, see software for small operators or the Docket listing. Neither replaces testing your own contract and billing rules.
